Introduction: Why Your Engagement Photos Matter
Your engagement session is more than just pretty pictures, it’s a chance to celebrate your love story, show off your personalities, and create meaningful memories before your wedding day.
Seattle and the surrounding Pacific Northwest offer an incredible variety of backdrops, from city landmarks to hidden gardens to jaw-dropping mountain views. No matter your vibe (romantic, adventurous, chic, or laid-back) there’s a perfect spot waiting for you.
As a Seattle wedding photographer, I’ve explored countless locations with couples over the years. Below, I’ve compiled my top engagement photo spots in Seattle and beyond, plus ideas for making your shoot feel uniquely yours.
Best Engagement Photo Locations in Seattle
1. Volunteer Park
Located in Capitol Hill, Volunteer Park offers a mix of open lawns, shady trees, and elegant architecture. The Conservatory, greenhouse windows, and water tower make for timeless backdrops.
Best Time: Spring for blossoms or fall for fiery leaves.
Photographer’s Tip: The water tower provides a 360° view of the city skyline, perfect for a dramatic shot at sunset!
Bring Personality: Pack a picnic basket or your favorite blanket for cozy lifestyle shots.
2. Washington Park Arboretum
This expansive park changes dramatically with the seasons—delicate cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, and colorful leaves in fall.
Best Time: Year-round, but especially spring and fall.
Photographer’s Tip: The Japanese Garden section (requires admission) is a hidden gem for elegance.
Bring Personality: Match your outfits to the season—pastel dresses in spring, rich jewel tones in autumn.

How to Bring Out Your Personality in Engagement Photos
Your photos should reflect who you are as a couple—not just pretty backdrops. Here are creative ways to infuse personality:
Choose activities you love: hiking, biking, cooking, reading together.
Bring personal props: champagne, picnic supplies, a favorite book, or even your pet.
Highlight your hobbies: guitars, sketchbooks, paddleboards—whatever tells your story.
Dress intentionally: casual and cozy, or formal and chic—make it reflect your vibe.
Pick meaningful places: your proposal spot, first date location, or favorite neighborhood café.
Blend formal + casual: Start polished, then change into comfy outfits for a second look.
